Halloween was certainly something like that by the 1990s in New York City's Greenwich Village!

I used to take such joy in running around, usually costumed, with my partner on Halloween night. There's a huge Halloween parade of families with children. It winds up and down the Village's cobbled streets with passersby cheering. Groups of costumed kids trick or treat at local businesses instead of homes, since single family homes don't exist there.

And it's all just queer friendly as hell. All the gay bars and restaurants participate in the festivities, handing out candy, decorating their storefronts.

Since residents are generally extremely progressive, there's none of the nonsense about protecting children from the gays. Homophobes need not apply, lol.

It's really a delightful time for everybody, queer, cis, straight — you name it.

Just another reason to love Halloween is one of our big holidays!
