Great writing, John. You brought back a lot of cool memories for me from when my late partner and I used to visit San Francisco. We were Chelsea boys, 24th and 8th, and used to gay life in lower Manhattan. I mean, nothing surprised us.

It took San Francisco to do that! I loved the Castro of course, but back in the 90s, there was a little more gay life left in the Tenderloin than just Uncle Charlie’s.

If you’re up for a funny story about the Castro, though, here’s something I wrote a while ago.

Thanks for sharing your story!

Jim
