Great tips! And yes, title, title, title, title, title, title, and title. Did I mention title? Lol

People choose stories to read on Medium by scrolling down their feed and looking at titles. If you want somebody to read your story, something about the combination of title and photo has to stop them and tempt them to click.

You have to ask yourself this: Why would someone want to read my story? Who am I targeting and how can I convince them to take a look?

As an editor of a Medium publication, I suppose I spend more time helping people with titles than almost anything else. Just the other day somebody submitted a great story, and I said to them, "Your story isn't boring, but your title is. The title makes your story sound like an academic paper, not the compelling first-person call to action that it is."

After 5 years on Medium, I'm still not an expert at crafting a compelling title that will convince people to click, but I'm better at it than I used to be. Working constantly to improve is probably key.

And, hey, that ties in with another one of your good points, consistency. The more you publish, the more people will get to know you, which is really important. But also, practicing titles 3 to 4 times a week or more will probably get you better at it a lot faster than just once or twice a week.
