Great story! Butch lesbians helped fill up my life in 1990s NYC when I was a member of Act Up and Queer Nation. Butch was a respected subculture with all its own nuances, style, norms, and attitudes. It was a way of life for a lot of my friends.

I’m sad to see that culture diminish or perhaps morph into new things. Change is constant, of course, and the only thing constant about culture is change, but I hope people can own who they are. Celebrate who they are.
