Great piece of analysis and reporting, thanks. I can only imagine the difficulty of attempting such a feat here in the United States. Criminal codes vary state by state, and rape is often defined as any penetration, digital, oral, or penile, "no matter how slight." The sex of the accused is of no consequence under most criminal statutes of the various 50 states and several territories.

But the details are dizzyingly diverse, as are various standards and practices of data collection.

I’ve seen activists try to gin up numbers based on states' reported sex-offender registries, but the publicly reported data is mostly so lacking in detail it’s almost useless.
