By the way, and I don’t know how this affects the point of view from which you wrote, and but I’ve noticed something of a phenomenon among younger trans people who submit stories to Prism & Pen, an LGBTQ publication I edit on Medium.

Many of these trans people say they aren’t trying to pass for cis, and don’t want to. I’m thinking for example of a young college student in California who “presents to confuse,” as they put it.

Some of them say deliberately not passing is becoming a trend. I don’t know how true that is, and I know our publication tends to attract more politically active, radicalized people, so I’m not trying to generalize from insufficient data.

But even so, running into this sort of thing pretty often makes it at least interesting enough to talk about. I’m wondering what a trans woman academic in your position thinks about the effectiveness or impact of what some of these young people are doing.
