Google is responding to a need and a loud demand from users for better design and better websites.
I’m tired of hearing developers bellyache about AMP and how Google is forcing them to use it. If the majority of news sites on the Net weren’t so horrible for users, then Google would never have been motivated to respond to a clear need for improvement.
It’s basic economics — the principle of no money left on the table. Vacuums get filled.
If developers wanted to resist AMP, they’d have been far better off designing usable web sites in the first place. Google stepped in because developers were consistently churning out garbage, without consideration for what users needed and wanted.
AMP is a great standard, because it works. It makes my life as a writer and researcher so much easier.
Don’t like it? Do better. Please.
