Going by the CPC conference that just concluded in Quebec City, trans rights are not only up for discussion, but when people talk about eroding or eliminating trans rights, especially for young people, Conservatives stand up and cheer wildly. And that national day of protest is still on. I saw two more promotions for it just this morning. The anti-trans hysteria behind the promotions is frightening and horrifying.
And if Muslims don't want their children to have access to valuable information about sexual orientation and gender identity, those Muslim parents must understand that Canada is not a theocracy and does not tolerate oppression based on religious belief.
Religion is private and must have zero bearing on what happens in public schools or anywhere on the public stage. Religion must never have the power to attenuate or erode human or civil rights.
Muslims can practice their religion all they want, but if they try to use it to influence public education or public life, then they absolutely must sit down and shut up.
