GMHC is indeed a critical resource for people living with HIV in the United States. Did you know it was founded by the late Larry Kramer, the same guy who founded Act Up?
When I was a member of Act Up back before effective treatment, I worked for an agency that cooperated with and sometimes contracted to GMHC. With some of our cases, our social workers cooperated so closely with GMHC that we were almost the same organization. The work they did and the work they continued to do is so vital.
For anyone in the United States having trouble accessing HIV treatment, a call to GMHC can move mountains.
In these extremely frightening and trying times, it's good to know we are not helpless!
