Given the huge pool of people who are exceptionally well qualified to sit on the Supreme Court, representation considerations are only common sense. Life experience and worldview certainly make a difference when judges evaluate cases and make decisions.
Many legal principles and standards boil down to judicial discretion. "I know it when I see it," does not apply only to profanity. Judging is what judges are for.
If the only people doing the judging are conservative white Catholics, we have a problem, Houston.
Many exceptionally well qualified federal judges and lawyers are Black women. Of course it's about time to have some of their life experiences count in the highest court of the land. Their omission until now is a bit shocking.
The only reason conservatives oppose this is because they know it won't be good for their conservative white agenda.
And racism, there's always that.
