Funny, I was just reading a novel draft last night about a queer woman invited to Christmas dinner with her best straight friend, which offered her a refuge from her homophobic family.

She didn't want to accept at first, because she felt she owed her family something. But events propelled her toward her friend's holiday dinner, and she learned that she didn't have to subject herself to stress and judgment.
