From where I sit, individually reaching out to community members isn’t just ineffective but unsafe. In the county just to the north of me, a health commissioner was almost run off a high-speed freeway the other day by an enraged citizen consumed with anger over masks and vaccines.
The county health commission had to appeal to the county board of supervisors for protection in public meetings, because they feared for their safety. School board members all around here are resigning. They’re trying to enforce county health mandates because they’re convinced by the data they see, and they believe it’s a responsibility of their office. But then they go to school board meetings filled with people who scream at them and threaten to do them great bodily harm.
Local law enforcement is pretty much on the side of the mob. One local sheriff, who defines himself as a “constitutional sheriff" with the authority to defy laws he believes are unconstitutional, is encouraging his entire county to disobey mask and vaccine requirements. Think school board members are appealing to him for their safety?
The kicker is that pretty much anybody you talk to around here is on the anti-mask, anti-vax side. And they’re not moderate about it. They don’t want to talk about it, they want to hurt people.
It’s madness, absolute madness. I don’t know what a solution is for that.
