From my personal experiences living in Detroit for many years, the music departments of Black churches are often filled with gay men, out or closeted.

The phenomenon is clear and obvious, but people sort of agree not to talk about it, even when a choir director or beloved soloist is a flamboyantly effeminate man who is never seen to marry or date women.
