Fortunately, I live in a state run by the Democratic Party. I lived in Germany for 5 years during my youth, and I sometimes ask myself why the German people seem to be doing such a better job at accepting the Other. I mean, it's not a perfect society. Just ask immigrants from Turkey or Syria. But leaders try very hard. So do the German people in my experience.

I wish Americans in general could embrace the same values.
