For me, Stephan, when I see a spike in daily views not reflected in recent stories, it usually means an older story of mine has taken off on social media somewhere. Somebody happened to read it, posted it, and got a good response to their post.

It’s very difficult to analyze this, because Medium has no way for you to dig into daily stats and get a snapshot of what’s going on as a function of time. If I had a stats wish list, this would be at the top of the list. I’d like to be able to see what’s happening with my views and reads at the moment, and not just on a day to day basis.

One other reason your views can spike, by the way, is if you commented on a post that went viral. That’s happened to me a couple times. I thought my stories were doing well that day, only to discover that a comment I made to somebody else’s story had been read a few hundred times. I was a tad disappointed. ;-)
