For decades, public officials and safety experts have been calling on police departments to stop high speed chases except in cases where lives are in immediate danger. (As in a kidnapping or assault in progress.) One hears mumblings of compliance from time to time.

But nothing has changed much, going by statistics. Cops are going to do what they do, as they demonstrate over and over, regardless of the consequences in lives and public safety.

There’s a reason people are shouting “defund the police," and this is one of them.
