Following up on that idea about privileged people who stay silent, I’m noticing an interesting trend of responses to this story on Facebook lgbtq groups.

A number of lgbtq people who identify as conservative have felt that they needed to make the point that all kids in schools are subject to bullying. Some of them are even denying the statistics in my story, insisting that lgbtq kids are no more subject to bullying than anyone else.

I’m not exactly sure why someone would be motivated to make those kind of points, but I speculate that if people are silent about these kinds of things, the downplaying the severity or the prevalence makes them feel better about themselves.
