Florida is such a perfect example of the anti-democratic impulses of the Republican Party. A super large majority of Florida voters approved an amendment that seemed on its face to promise that felons (with a few clearly articulated exceptions) would regain the right to vote once they completed their prison sentences and any probation or parole.
But the state Republican Party, fearful that many of those voters would vote for Democrats, pushed through a state law to keep those potential new voters disenfranchised — despite the clearly expressed, democratic will of the people.
That's not freedom. It's authoritarianism. It's telling the voters that their voice doesn't matter, even when clearly expressed and even when when expressed in a large majority.
Damn straight we should be talking about this!
