Fighting for it, indeed! Saying or writing truthful things is the bare beginning of disinfection.

I've been publicly writing truthful things about LGBTQ people for years, debunking lies, citing stats people may be unaware of, telling stories about real queer people, etc. I even do a bit of investigative reporting sometimes, like in a story last year exposing a United Methodist pastor for calling boys fags in his Oklahoma elementary-school classroom.

A constant refrain in response to my truth telling is a simple two-word phrase that Donald Trump popularized: "Fake news."

Many people are remarkably unwilling to let go of their prejudices and preconceptions. They aren't about to let something trivial like the truth change the way they think.

It takes a lot more work than merely telling the truth to effect change.
