Few issues underline your position more starkly than the continuing HIV epidemic among Black and Latinx people in the South. In almost all other American demographics, rates of new HIV infections are falling, in some places to near zero.

Racism causes the lack of access to HIV treatment among people of color, and it’s keeping the epidemic burning. This obviously harms Black people, and we obviously have to work for equal access to medical care.

But it doesn’t just hurt Black people. Racist medical policies are keeping HIV in circulation for EVERYONE. Because the virus doesn’t give a fuck what color somebody is.

American racism has blinded us to that.
