Fascinating story that reminds me of a really interesting point. Parental custody disputes that end up involving international borders are still a huge problem. Non-custodial parents who have the means or paperwork to take their children to different countries often end up with permanent legal custody.

This is an ongoing problem that some advocates say isn't much better today than it was during the time of the Titanic.
