Fascinating! Years ago, I was a member of a small but very dedicated fiction writers workgroup. We met weekly, in person at a local library to read some of our work out loud, and to discuss each member's weekly writing output, which we distributed to all group members (4 to 6 of us) in advance.
The three or four years I spent doing that were my most productive fiction-writing years ever. The energy and motivation I received from other group members, and the implied social obligation I felt to produce, led me to write so much more (and perhaps better) than I would have otherwise.
I'm glad to this phenomenon explained.
