Fascinating. As a former fanatic marathon runner, I’ve done quite a few slow easy training runs that went beyond 26.2, but I never competed in an ultra.

I’ve always craved the challenge, but somehow I feel I waited too long. Oh, I know some people my age compete, but at almost 60, I don’t think my body has enough recuperative power anymore to make ultra running wise or responsible.

But your article certainly gets my blood pumping. There’s nothing like the nerves and excitement of final preparations for a big race you’ve been training for for months!
