The main thrust of my story is that no matter the provocation, queer people should not commit acts of violence against Pride protesters.

Wood was certainly provoked. You can listen to the chanted slurs of faggot, pedophile, and tranny in widely available video. Those are normally considered “fighting words,” and are certainly socially unacceptable and often considered illegal if meant to provoke violence.

Nevertheless, my story is about advising people how to respond in such circumstances, which you will note is not how Wood responded, though I refrained from directly criticizing him in light of the provocation.
