Excellent article, thanks so much! Just to add a little bit to the subject, I like to point out that homosexuality was very common in the hellenized Mediterranean world Jesus lived in. People weren’t “gay” in the sense they are today, but male/male sexuality was accepted within certain contexts.

So, if Jesus intended to overturn that paradigm, if he expected his followers to reject the way people lived and experienced sexuality, that would have been revolutionary, right?

But here’s the thing, if he really expected that, if he wanted to overturn common sexual paradigms, would he not have said so in plain language?

He was pretty darn clear about most of what he taught. Even when he spoke in parables, they were easy to understand.

His silence on this subject speaks powerfully.
