Everything old is new again. When I was a young man, conservative religious people insisted the same thing about gay identity — that being gay is actually a religious belief system, albeit a false and damnable one.

These people seemed incapable of understanding anything outside the framework of their own faith-based thinking patterns. Since religion infused all of their thinking, they couldn't imagine that it didn't infuse mine either.

Of course they were wrong then, just like they're wrong now.
