Even casual fans of Pink Floyd are aware of the cover art on the iconic Dark Side of the Moon album, with its prism and rainbow spectrum. Most people are probably aware that when that album came out, the rainbow flag did not yet exist as a symbol of LGBTQ inclusion and equality. Gilbert Baker hadn't thunk it up yet.

In one of my books, I use the album cover as a literary device, having a young gay man mistake the rainbow on it for a Pride symbol before quoting poignant lyrics from Dark Side of the Moon.

To see people jump to condemn Pink Floyd for using their own iconography is more than disheartening, it's a display of extremist homophobic hatred that too many people just refuse to let go of.
