Don’t even get me started! There’s a hyper-conservative gay white man in a Facebook group I help moderate. He’s homophobic and racist af, institutionally, personally, socially. Name it.
Yet his profile photo is of him and his Black partner embracing. He tries to use that photo to shut down every bit of criticism he gets.
See? I can’t be a homophobe (as he supports oppressive Trump LGBTQ policies) because I have a same-sex partner.
See? I can’t be a racist (as he trashes Black Lives Matter) because my partner is Black.
Sometimes I wonder what his partner thinks about being used like that in such a disingenuous way. It must be conflicting and exhausting.
You know, though? Sometimes our hearts hijack us in surprising and delightful ways. Planning for love only goes so far. ;-)
