Detroit, where I lived until recently has a large and vibrant Mexican community. The size of a small city itself, Mexican Town feels much like Mexico. (Well, except when it snows. LOL) You can walk for blocks and see traditional shop after traditional shop. In summer, you’d actually think you were not in the United States.

I dated a guy from there for a while, and I was fortunate enough to celebrate Día de Muertos with him and his family. It was awesome.

They combined all the traditional Mexican festivities with trick or treating for the kids. Because you can’t tell a kid not to go candy hunting. ;-)

But you know, they don’t worry about losing Día de Muertos, because as an immigrant community they hold it close to their hearts. Maybe it’s more special to them because Mexico is so far away.
