Detroit is a perfect example of the state allowing private education to directly pull funds away from public education. Betsy DeVos, currently the federal Secretary of Education, I had a lot to do with putting that system in place.

The result has been that Detroit’s public schools, free for all, have gone from tragically underfunded to even worse.

The charter school movement and the movement to take funding away from public schools to hand out as scholarships to private schools is wreaking havoc on American education.

We built our nation on excellent schooling. Now we’re destroying it.
