Cultural stereotyping is hard to resist sometimes. Here in the U.S., it can be very tempting to presume we know important things about people because they come from Texas, or New York, or California, for example. Aren't those three cultures so distinct that people raised in them must share particular traits?

Well, no.

While for many outside the U.S., the presumption often is that a certain overriding U.S. culture makes Americans homogenous, or roughly so.

Stereotyping is easy, but often very unhelpful to say the least.
