Color me not surprised that the Trumps managed to bring gender studies into the student loan forgiveness debate.

Junior is doing it on purpose, leveraging the outrage the Republican Party has harnessed this year against transgender people and LGBTQ people in general.

Creating fear of queer people is making political bank for them when they have little going on to talk to voters about.

On abortion, they're the dog that caught the bus, and they've worn people's patience thin with all that faux outrage over sensible covid precautions.

Plus, and this is critical, Big Daddy Trump is in serious legal jeopardy, with the details getting very much too damning to really talk about.

So let's all (they seem to be saying) join in a rousing chorus of queer baiting.

Governors DeSantis and Abbott have shown the Republican Party that scapegoating works as well as it ever did to take voters' minds off inconvenient reality.

I fear the anti-gender, anti-LGBTQ rhetoric is going to just ramp up from here to November.
