Classic tribalism, classic othering.

They are not us. Because they are not us, we do not owe them compassion. We will save our compassion for our families, our tribes, our society.

This is the sentiment that Trump and other nationalists pander to.

This is the sentiment that we human beings are supposed to transcend as we learn to stop fearing differences between ourselves and to celebrate our diversity and common humanity.

Right-wing populism is always about preserving privilege and withholding compassion from the other.

Watching it live and in action like this is so disheartening.

This is what we unleashed when we allowed Trump to be elected. The majority of people of good will and decency in the United States must come together and end this.

Before the cancer grows too large to be excised.
