Circuit parties! Now that brings back memories. The Black and Blue Party in Montreal. The White Party in various cities. The Black Party. (For the uninitiated, these are color themes, not references to people or race.)
I used to love to dance. Trance out. Circuit parties were great for that, especially in cities where big gay dance clubs weren't all that popular. I mean, of course Montreal had gay dance clubs, but nothing to compete with the annual, multi-day Black and Blue extravaganza.
So that was fun, sometimes. Nothing like moving to the music with a thousand other guys at the same time.
A treat. A change. Something to look forward to.
On the other hand, they call them circuit parties because they ... well, move around North America in a circuit, not always sharing the same name, but coordinating dates so fans of the events can follow them around. Atlanta, Fire Island, P-Town, Palm Springs, Key West, etc ...
That's a little hard core, I guess —running around the US from party to party, living for the one you're at, planning for the one that's coming up next.
I never did that, but I had friends who sometimes did, and some of them might have profited from the spirit of "everything in moderation."
Your story is a good reminder that everything has its plusses and minuses. Partying can be awesome. But life can't be a constant party.
Or something like that, lol.
