Christy-Lynne Lapine, besides the excellent points you make, it’s also possibly worth mentioning that the inaccurate idea that Hollywood and other pop culture forces are strongly pro-LGBTQ leads to some pretty odd thinking among cis/het people and even some LGBTQ people.

For example, I’m often surprised by people expressing the idea that LGBTQ people in the US are culturally dominant and that we impose our identities and lives on the general culture. From my point of view, that’s just … silly, or absurd, or something like that.

Trans people are routinely portrayed inaccurately, and violence against trans and gay people is skyrocketing. I don’t feel like a culturally dominant force. I feel like a target. And I’m a gay white man! Trans people and people of color have things even worse than I do.

So, I think it’s important for you to point out what a bad job Hollywood is doing with trans issues. It matters for a lot of reasons!
