Child! Lol. You should hear me when I get together with a gaggle of gay friends. When we let our hair down, we positively swish. And that certainly goes for the way we talk and the vocabulary we choose.
I never talk like that in a professional setting. Oddly, I have never thought of it as code switching, even though it clearly is. Thank you for that insight.

That can be a big part of white, gay male vernacular, but I’m pretty sure we appropriated it from Black culture. I’m not sure how or why. (Maybe drag is involved, having deep Black roots?) I doubt anybody ever thinks about it consciously.
But it’s definitely something to consider.
