But this is actually one of the most disgusting and hateful parts of Christianity, anyway. Those of us oppressed by Christianity are thoroughly disgusted by the message that we're sinners and must repent and turn from our "sin." We think you Christians must stop that message, must reform that evil theology. Must fundamentally change your religion that is evil at its heart.
The idea that God created humanity in order to torture most of us in hell because of our sin is revolting, superstitious nonsense, they inevitably leads to persecution.
That's not a new part of Christianity, that's very very old, going right back to the beginning. And in my opinion, it's why so many Christians are such thoroughly nasty people.
It's the basic theology!
Any Christian who tries to tell me that I'm a sinner because I'm gay and that I need to repent is going to get cussed up one side and down the other.
I'm also going to point out that Christians who believe that sin nonsense, that internal damnation superstition, are highly disproportionately likely to be judgmental and arrogant. How could you not be, when you believe you've practiced faith correctly to be saved from your own sins, but most of the rest of us have not?
When your primary purpose in life is to convert other people?
I grew up in mainstream Christianity in the 1960s and '70s, and I don't think anything has changed much. I think Christianity was always as evil as it is today.
And I think the idea that God created most of humanity to torture us for eternity is the reason why.
That ancient, highly popular doctrine is just nasty and arrogant. And it produces nasty and arrogant Christians.
Nasty and arrogant is just baked into the Christian system.
I'm very pleased that there's a newish movement of progressive Christians who reject the doctrines of sin and eternal damnation for all but a select few.
But, please, let's understand that they are the revolutionary ones. They are the highly unusual ones. They are fighting to save their religion from its disgusting historic core belief system.
