Bure’s crocodile tears are entirely unconvincing.
She left Hallmark to join a new network that formed as pushback to Hallmark’s decision to (rarely!) include LGBTQ people in Christmas movies.
Well, guess what? Gay and trans people like Christmas too, have families too, watch TV too. We enjoy seeing "ourselves" on the screen once in a while, and some of us love Christmas romcoms as much as the next American.
Let’s be clear about what’s happening here. Bure and the founders of the new network freaked out because Hallmark did a bare minimum of representation. No disrespect to Hallmark, but their inclusiveness, welcome as it is, doesn’t even approach the percentage of LGBTQ people in real life.
But that bare-bones representation was enough to set conservative people running in circles, screaming and shouting — then setting up a brand new network.
All they really needed to do was choose not to watch Christmas movies that don’t appeal to them. Pretty simple, no? That’s like what, one Hallmark movie a year with LGBTQ protagonists?
Seriously, we’re not even at one movie a year yet, and that’s what everybody’s screaming about?
This is what makes Bure’s talk of love feel so creepy. When she claims to love us, then works her ass off to exclude us, we know she’s lying.
