Brilliant review, thanks! I've read at least a couple dozen reviews of Barbie so far, and yours feels like the most interesting analysis of its gender themes that I've seen yet.
I have a better appreciation for why so many conservatives seem to hate it. 🤣
But really, they shouldn't, should they?
Shouldn't conservative men WANT freedom and individuality? Shouldn't they delight in freedom from mandated gender constraints that shoehorn them into roles whether they want them or not?
In so many ways, this film is about striving for personal liberty. That's supposed to be a conservative value!
But, you know, whatever conservative critics are saying, this film is attracting just enormous audiences. People must be resonating with its message, which isn't in any way subtle.
I love that!
