Being bald is more socially unacceptable somehow for women, isn’t it? I’m a man who’s had a small bald spot on the back of my head for at least 15 years. I can’t say I love the idea of losing my hair, but I don’t lose sleep over it either.
Okay, I do feel a little uncomfortable connecting with my much younger gay self who found balding men unattractive. I’m not sure why I felt that way and I don’t feel that way now.
But that same younger self who didn’t want to date balding men didn’t find them shocking either. Balding women were truly shocking. I mean, you see bald men all the time, and toupees are kind of made fun of. But women? Society doesn’t make fun of wigs, we expect balding women will wear them.
All that what to say, I guess, that it takes a lot of pride and self-respect, not to mention a serious sense of style, to rock your bald beauty once in a while.
You’ve got my respect!
