Back in the day when allies were less ubiquitous than they are now, they were more special. When somebody like Betty spoke up with support, that came from a certain place of courage, of risk.

For young people who might not understand why a certain generation of LGBTQ folks love Betty White, who was so quiet and understated in her support, that’s probably why.

Her quiet support was powerful because it was courageous, because it pushed boundaries, because it moved hearts.
