Awesome! I did CBT for a while to deal with some post traumatic stress. No big deal. I found it helpful, and I liked my therapist quite a lot. But every once in a while, he’d come out of left field with something that had to be a result of his own training and frames of references, but that nothing at all to do with me.

I’d think to myself, “T’es fou, tabernak!” but I’d nod politely and move on, because in general, I found his tools and training very helpful.

But it was important not to elevate him to some kind of infallible figure. I had to stay in charge of my own therapy, because I was the only one who really knew what was in my head.

What a good thing to learn at 15!
