At the risk of sounding like a grumpy old man, I wish more people would write, not just people who think of ourselves as writers like you and I do, Shannon Ashley. Writing is something of a dying art, and that’s sad to me.

I’m at least as much activist as I am writer, so I find myself all over social media networking and promoting. In the course of doing that, tons of people reach out to me to share ideas, ask questions, make connections.

And you know what? The bulk of them couldn’t communicate their way clearly out of a wet paper bag.

I’m not saying that to sneer, but to raise the point that communication is so vital. If we want to be understood and make ourselves understood, we have to know how to write, whether we’re writers or not.

I guess that’s just my long winded endorsement of your statement: “Use your voice and write.”
