As somebody who grew up Baptist and has Southern Baptist preachers in the family, I feel like maybe I should point out that the Southern Baptist Convention came into existence for the sole purpose of defending enslaving Black people.

And while this article claims that by confronting their racist history they’re finally free of its taint, I could observe that growing up I experienced the majority of white Southern Baptist people as intensely racist, and quite religiously strict about it.

I heard racism preached from Southern Baptist pulpits constantly, segregation defended scripturally. That’s hardly ancient history; I’m not even 60 yet.

Just sayin’.
