As I was just mentioning to somebody else, while this is very surprising to English speakers, German and Dutch speaking Catholics are hardly surprised at all. Catholic churches in northern Europe have been very LGBTQ inclusive for a generation, but they've been quiet about it. Only now are they becoming so vocal that the rest of the world can't help notice.
