As gay Guardian columnist Owen Jones has pointed out, opposition to LGBTQ equality stems from conservative opposition to gender nonconformity. Gay people shatter gender conformity by their sexual attraction to the "wrong" gender, and trans people shatter it by presenting as the "wrong" gender. But that's just the tip of the iceberg as far as not conforming with the patriarchy's gender demands.
