As anyone who speaks more than one language knows, translation is a high art, not a robotic science. Translating the work of an artist into another language demands a level of artistry at least commensurate with that of the original artist. I don't say that lightly. I say it as a multilingual person who often turns to books in their original language to more fully appreciate them, and as a person who has often been disappointed with poor translations of excellent books.
