As an editor for a couple different Medium pubs, I HIGHLY endorse this simple, clear instruction manual for Medium newbies.

The title thing is so important. You have only a fraction of a second to capture the attention of potential readers as they scroll through their feeds.

Nine times out of ten, if your headline doesn’t tell them what the story is about, they just keep moving.

This is different from magazines and journals, which many writers are used to … and emulate. So they come up with artsy, clever, cool headlines … that everyone scrolls right past.

You can (and should!) still be clever and cool, but the title needs to tell the story.

This might be the single most important lesson for aspiring Medium writers or bloggers in general.

The rest of your stuff is excellent too, but the title part? Just critical!
