As a side note, I was once hanging on to a strap on a crowded New York City subway. The doors opened and several people entered the car, including a young attractive woman and an elderly man.

Someone stood up, being chivalrous I presume, and offered the woman a seat.

No one offered the man a seat, even though he looked like he needed it much more. I hung onto his arm to stabilize him while the car swayed down the tunnel.
