As a matter of fact, just a few days ago news came out that a congressperson in my own state of Michigan flew to Uganda and gave a speech encouraging the Uganda government to keep going with their new "kill the gays" law —the one that includes the death penalty for "aggravated homosexuality" and many years in prison just for identifying publicly as gay or transgender.
What's this rep's religion? Why, he's an Evangelical Christian, of course.
Is this rep worried about electoral consequences over his violent anti-LGBTQ beliefs and actions? Nope! His constituents for the most part are Evangelical Christians too. They're cheering him on.
They're going to keep voting for him because they agree with him that we gay and trans people should be criminally punished for being who we are and for having sex with the people we love.
That's what Evangelical Christianity is these days — hating on queer people and arming oneself to the teeth with assault rifles and concealed pistols.
Do we get to call them a cult yet?
